About

History

Bilkent Goats was first founded by expatriate Terry Banen (2008-2011) and then-grad student Seray Öztürk (2008-2011) in the summer of 2008. With a bit of luck, the two-man team grew immensely by the arrival of numerous short-term English-speaking instructors from US, two of whom had played very high-level Ultimate in college. With the coaching of those two who go by the names Leon Schneider (2008-2009) and Carson Thomas (2008-2009), the team went on to flourish. Several undergraduate recruits who started playing that year formed the backbone of the team in the oncoming years.

In May 2009, Bilkent Goats hosted Turkey's first National Championship, taking on the experienced Türk Kası (2006-present) and winning by a score of 15-8*.

In April 2010, the National Championships were held again, with a new club team joining, named Caddebostan. The Goats finished in second place losing to Türk Kası in a round robin, but managed to win the final game 7-6 on the universe point* and bring home the second National Championship.

In 2010 and 2011, the Ultimate scene in Turkey started to grow larger. New teams were found in Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Boğaziçi University and Middle East Technical University (aka 06Uç). In a tournament organized by ITU, Goats lost the final game to Boğaziçi University with 6-8 despite finishing the round robin in the first place *.

Most recently, Bilkent Goats joined to the National Turkish Championships held in Bilkent University with two divided teams, Bilkent and Goats, which got 6th and 2nd places in the round robin, respectively. The Goats lost the final to its old rivals Türk Kası with a score of 13-11 *.
